Poon Hill Panorama & Sunrise Trekking offers vista of world’s 7th highest Mt. Dhaulagiri (8,167m / 26,795 ft), 10th highest Annapurna (8,091m / 26,545 ft) and Vara-Shikar peaks / Annapurna Fang, Annapurna South (7,219m-23,693ft), Gangapurna (7,455m-24,457ft) and Annapurna III (7,555m-24,787ft), including Mt. Machhapuchare (Fish-tail) at 6,790 m extends to world’s 08th highest Mt. Manaslu at 8,163 m with smaller adjoin peaks.

Starting this marvelous walking journey from scenic Pokhara valley heading towards mid hills covered with lovely rhododendron forest, where in summer the whole hills turns into magic with wildflowers in full bloom with riots of different dazzling colors.

Walking to our destination at Ghorepani and Poon Hill with overwhelming panorama of mountains with striking sunrise views and then heading back to Pokhara using an alternative route exploring traditional Gurung villages of Ghandruk and Landruk and concluding this wonderful Poon Hill Panorama & Sunrise Trekking in Pokhara with great guidance and services of Nepal Best Camp Trek including our cheerful expert staff and guides.

Brief Itinerary:

Day 01:  Arrive in Kathmandu 1,315m | 4,270ft and transfer o hotel.
Day 02:  In Kathmandu with sightseeing tour at places of interest.
Day 03:  Drive to Pokhara 820m | 2700ft – 06 hours drive.
Day 04:  Drive to Nayapul and trek to Tirkhedhunga 1,450 m – (2hrs ride and 04 hrs walks).
Day 05:  Trek to Ghorepani 2,840m – 05 hrs
Day 06:  Morning hike to Poon Hill at 3,210m for sunrise and trek to Tadapani 2,520m – 05 hrs.
Day 07:  Trek to Tolka 1,700 m via Ghandruk 1,940 m – 05 hrs.
Day 08:  Trek to Kande via Potana and Australian Camp and drive to Pokhara – 04 hrs walks with an hour ride.
Day 09: Drive or fly back to Kathmandu afternoon free at leisure.
Day 10: International departure homeward bound.

Details Itinerary

Trip in detail:

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu 1,327 m and transfer to hotel.
On reaching Kathmandu international airport via various respective airlines, our Nepal Base Camp Treks guide or staff will receive you with warm welcome and then a short drive to your hotel in the heart of Kathmandu city.
After checking in your hotel rooms and getting refreshed join at the hotel lobby for group briefing and orientation program where our guide informs you regarding hotels, Kathmandu, Nepali culture, Poon Hill Panorama & Sunrise Trekking with welcome dinner in a pleasant authentic Nepalese restaurant with culture program. 

Day 02: In Kathmandu with sightseeing tour and trek preparations.
In Kathmandu morning after breakfast and at given time our city guide will pick you up for sightseeing tour around places of interest around Kathmandu old part of the city, Kathmandu is famous for world heritage sites with tour of Pashupatinath a holy temple, Bouddhanath Stupa a Buddhist pilgrimage spot or tour of Kathmandu old Durbar (palace) Square and ancient 2,500 years old Swayambhunath, afternoon free for Mardi Himal Trekking preparation.

Day 03: Drive to Pokhara 820m - 06 hrs of 220 k.m. distances.
Morning an exciting drive on nice comfortable coach or in a private vehicle (depending upon the group size), the road to Pokhara lead on low hills of with views of Himalayan peaks and rolling green hills, passing through many farm villages and towns to reach at scenic and famed city Pokhara.

Pokhara located in the shadow of massive Annapurna range of mountains with pristine Lake Phewa, here in accommodation in nice hotels with time in the afternoon for walks on the lake side where you can browse around excellent shops-stores-restaurants.  
(Options by air from Kathmandu 30 mins of scenic flight to Pokhara)

Day 04: Drive to Nayapul and trek to Tirkhedhunga 1,450 m - (2hrs ride and 04 hrs walks).
From Pokhara after a pleasant overnight stop with grand views of Annapurna Himalaya, starting our wonderful Poon Hill Panorama & Sunrise trekking with few hours of scenic drive to reach our trekking point at Nayapul on the mid way of Baglung and Pokhara highway, walk leads following Modi River for a short while at Bhirethati village a charming village with views of waterfalls and Mt. Machhapuchare.

After Bhirethati village walking past rural farm villages and on the uphill trail to reach at Tirkhedhunga with beautiful cascading waterfalls for overnight stop in a nice cozy lodge.

Day 05: Trek to Ghorepani 2,840 m - 05 hours.
Morning leads to uphill on stone steps from Tirkhedhuga to reach a large Gurung village at Ulleri, from here on gradual uphill trail into alpine woodlands full of tall rhododendron-pines and oaks trees where in spring and summer this places turns into a natural garden with wildflowers in full bloom.

After a great pleasant walk reaching at Ghorepani Deuarli the village of Poon-Magar tribe, where the houses and lodges are painted blue, located at 2,840 m high on the mid way of old Trans-Himalayan Salt Trade route of Nepal and Tibet on route Upper Mustang to Tibet border.

Ghorepani offers excellent views of Dhaulagiri range of peaks with Annapurna Fang (Vara Shikar) and Annapurna South.

Day 06: Morning hike to Poon Hill 3,210m for sunrise, walk to Tadapani 2520mm.
Early morning as the day is promising with clear sky, hike uphill to Poon-Hill at 3,210m the highest point of the trek offering super panorama of Mt. Dhaulagiri, Mt. Manaslu to Annapurna range of peaks, as far to Ganesh Himal in the Far East horizon includes towering unclimbed and virgin Mt. Machhapuchare “The Fish Tail”.

From Poon Hill catch the stunning sunrise views over chain of Himalayan peaks, after a busy photo session back to Ghorepani for breakfast and carry on trekking towards our next destination to Tadapani.

Walk leads up and downhill into beautiful forest on reaching a isolated village at Tadapani with incredible views of Annapurna range of peaks.

Day 07: Trek to Tolka 1,700 m via Ghandruk 1,940 m - 05 hrs.
Morning catching another sunrise views from Tadapani over the mountains, morning walk is easier on the downhill trail through serene forest and streams and then reaching at a large Gurung tribe village in Ghandruk, at Ghandruk with time for lunch break and explore this nice Gurung village which is one of the largest villages around Annapurna region. The men folk of Ghandruk village have old and long tradition supplying some of the finest soldiers in the Gorkha Regiment to both Indian and armies.

From Ghandruk our walk continues taking a downhill path to reaching at the bottom of a hill between Ghandruk and Landrul village by the Modi River. From here an hour climb to another large Landruk village with pleasant walk on gradual trail with few short ups to reach our overnight stop at Tolka, a nice spread out farm village with super views of Annapurna South and Huinchuli.

Day 08:  Trek to Kande via Potana and Australian Camp and drive to Pokhara - 04 hrs walks with an hour ride.
After a wonderful stop at Tolka our last day walk of this marvelous trekking leads on nice winding path with a short climb at Deurali ridge top with grand views of surrounding landscapes and snow-clad peaks.

Walk leads downhill into a nice cool forest reaching at Potana for lunch located in the midst of a forest with grand views of peaks, afternoon a short climb to beautiful spot at Australian Camp also known as Thulo-Kharka, a grazing land offering super panorama of mountains.

From here the last leg of the journey leads downhill to Kande village at the road head of Baglung and Pokhara and then taking a drive for an hour or more to reach at Pokhara after a great time up in the high hills of Annapurna Himalaya.

Day 09: Drive to Kathmandu - 06 hrs evening farewell dinner.
After a great country walk on the scenic trail of Annapurna Himalaya, morning journey as the drive leads back to Kathmandu with few rest stops for refreshment and lunch, after 6 hours of good drive reaching back at busy city life in Kathmandu.
(From Pokhara option by air to Kathmandu of 30 minutes flight)

Day 10: Final International departure homeward bound.
Last day in amazing Nepal with awesome time in the high hills of Annapurna Himalaya with Poon Hill Panorama & Sunrise trekking, our staff will transfer you to Kathmandu international airport for your final flight back homeward bound or to respective countries.

  • All menu selected meals will be provided during trekking while only breakfast will be available in Kathmandu. There will also be welcome dinner with typical cuisine and Menu selected farewell dinners. While on trek, we have breakfast and dinner in the same tea-houses/lodges we spend the night and lunch on our way to the next destination. Nepalese, Tibetan, the more common continental and Indian cuisines are common choices in the menu.
  • Physical Condition & Experience Requirements
  • Our 10 days Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is a moderate for those travelers who can walk up to 6-7 hours (10-15km) a day on an uphill and downhill trail will find this trek fulfilling. It is best that we prepare ourselves for the Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek by morning jogging and 1 hours exercising regularly at least a month prior to the start of the trek. Trekking to the Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek should be relatively easier for those who have experience walking/trekking in a high altitude environment. Past hiking experience would be an asset but no technical skill is required for this trip. It is also important that we consult our doctor. Participants with pre-existing medical conditions such as heart, lung, and blood diseases should inform Nepal Base Camp Team before booking the trek.
  • Best Time to Travel to Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek
  • The best time to trek to the Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is spring (March to May) and autumn (October to first week of December). The temperature is moderate in these seasons and guarantees amazing panorama views through the trip. Although this trek can be undertaken during winter, the cold temperature might not be suitable for everyone.

Your safety during the journey is of paramount concern while traveling with Nepal Base Camp Treks and note that turbulent and cloudy weather is regular phenomenon along the Himalayas ranges and possibility of domestic flights from Kathmandu to Pokhara or Pokhara to Kathmandu may have to be delayed for few hours or even canceled for a day.

Any Weather conditions and health condition of a group member, or unexpected natural disasters, etc., can all contribute to changes in the tentative itinerary. NBCT leader will try to ensure your trip runs according to plan, but please be prepared to be flexible if any required.

As a safeguard we recommend you to add a couple of extra days after your trek before you fly from Kathmandu to your onward destination.
