‘ Everest Base Camp Trek ’ is one trip any lover of the mountains would want to do once in a whole lifetime. Just don your hiking boots; pack a map and compass, clad yourself right and set off over well marked trails once tread by legends who gambled with their lives to summit Mt. Everest. This epic journey begins with a great skytour to Lukla, the world’s highest airport, & on touchdown, we embark on a continuous walk from village to village with truly friendly inhabitants who welcome us warmly all the way. Our hike wades through cultivated farmlands of potatoes and barley till we crash into the capital of the Khumbu [Everest region] at Namche bazaar where we have enough time to acclimatize & get used to the thin air which we must be ready for as we go higher. EBC via Chola Pass Gokyo Lake Valley also More Attractive scenery. This follows with a visit to the amazing Buddhist monastery of Tengboche, the oldest monastery in this region as we have some interesting interactions with the monks & enjoy their butter tea which is a delight in this region.
From here on we go into high alpine region as the vegetation gets less due to the cold but we are not short of landscapes that make the heart skip a beat with fabulous views of famous peaks that include Amadablam, Lhotse & Everest as we hike the trails till we reach base camp & view melting glaciers that’s a worry for the local folks in this region trekking in himalaya.
This trip culminates with a breathtaking climb up to Kalapathar peak at 5545m where we get 360 views of Everest real close-up, its like as if we can touch it; finally we head down to camp for some piping hot tea/coffee & a delicious hot breakfast after which we make a beeline backtracking to Namche & then Lukla for our flight to Kathmandu & a warm soft bed at our hotel.
The normal hiking distance to is something like 8/9 km which works out to be 5-7 hrs per day & most hikers are up to it; but being mentally prepared with some physical exercise at home can help you go a long way in enjoying your trip to Everest Base Camp Trek . We will be staying at Hotel International Guest House,a 3-star hotel in Kathmandu; and tea-houses during the trek. All accommodations are on twin-shared basis during the trek. Twin sharing or Single supplement will be served in Kathmandu.
Nepal Base Camp Treks will arrange rooms with attached washrooms; however, tea-houses in some places only have shared washing and toilet facilities. Also note that single rooms are readily available in Kathmandu and the trekking regions at lower elevation but it might be difficult to find them at higher elevations.
- All menu selected meals will be provided during trekking while only breakfast will be available in Kathmandu. There will also be welcome dinner with typical cuisine and Menu selected farewell dinners. While on trek, we have breakfast and dinner in the same tea-houses/lodges we spend the night and lunch on our way to the next destination. Nepalese, Tibetan, the more common continental and Indian cuisines are common choices in the menu.
- Physical Condition & Experience Requirements
- 16 days Everest Base Camp Trekking is a moderate for those travelers who can walk up to 6-7 hours (10-15km) a day on an uphill and downhill trail will find this trek fulfilling. It is best that we prepare ourselves for the Everest trek by morning jogging and 1 hours exercising regularly at least a month prior to the start of the trek. Trekking to the Everest Base Camp should be relatively easier for those who have experience walking/trekking in a high altitude environment. Past hiking experience would be an asset but no technical skill is required for this trip. It is also important that we consult our doctor. Participants with pre-existing medical conditions such as heart, lung, and blood diseases should inform Himalayan Glacier before booking the trek.
- Best Time to Travel to Everest Base Camp Trek
- The best time to trek to the Everest Base Camp is spring (March to May) and autumn (October to first week of December). The temperature is moderate in these seasons and guarantees amazing panorama views through the trip. Although this trek can be undertaken during winter, the cold temperature might not be suitable for everyone.
Arrival Day in Kathmandu Airport (1,340m/4,430ft).On arrival day after landing at the vibrant Kathmandu Airport (Tribhuvan International Airport), our team from Nepal Base Camp Treks will be happily greeted you by fresh garlanded Marigold flowers or by holy traditional scarf and transfer to your selected hotel just 15-25 minute by private car. Freshen up and rest short briefing about the trip in the evening before your dinner.
Day 1: Fly to Lukla,trek to Phakding( 2650m/8745ft): 35-40 minutes flight,3-4 hours trek (5-6 km).Today our first exciting morning fright from Kathmandu to Lukla if possible take left side seats to overview snowy mountain peaks along the way to Lukla. After landing small air script at Lukla takes around an hour's to start our trek meeting mountain crew already waiting us happily. Passing amazing air script we landed and forward to Phakding via Sherpa Settlements Cheplung,Thado Koshi and Ghat where we will get incredible glimpse of Khumbila peak and east part of Thamserku peak.Many Yaks and Jokyos will be carrying foods up and down yielding whistle by owner,becareful and stay mountain side for safety and taking photos. Day 2: Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3,430m/11,352ft): 5 - 6 hours (10-11km).After trekking breakfast we gradually continue through Benkar, Chumoa, Monjo villages passing a pine forest along the Dudhkoshi River valley. Last village Jorsale before final steep climbing 350m to Namche Bazaar the main gateway and luxury town in Everest region we will be staying another extra night for acclimatization before heading more high altitude. Day 3: Acclimatization-Day in Namche Bazaar: (3,440m/11,352ft) 3-4 hours (6-8km up and down).We can tour around the town visiting museum and national park headquarters to overview Mount Everest, Lhotse, Nupse, Amadablam, Konde , Kongtega and other ranges. Today we also hike around 400m to Everest View hotel for best view point possible teabreak with some cookies and back to Namche Bazaar lunch and rest overnight lodge
Day 4: Trek to Tengboche Monastery (3880m/12800ft), 4-5 hours (8-9km).Today trek gradually passes around National Park Headquarter above the ridges over viewing Dudhkoshi Valley passing Kyanjuma gradually downhill to riverside spot Phunki then climb to Monastery land Tengboche which is blessed around the panoramic views of Mt. Everest, Amadablam, Nuptse-Lhotse ranges, Thamserku and snow peak Himalayas. Around 3 o'clock visit monastery for Buddhist religious ceremony. Day 5: Tengboche Monastery to Dingboche village (4,340 m/14,320 ft): 5 - 6 hours (9-10km).From the monastery our trails slowly descend through rhododendrons, confer trees and lush forests of birch along the fantastic admired views of Amadablam, Lhotse and Everest to Imja valley. Crossing Imja Khola we take upper Pangboche village for Closet Himalayan Vista.After Pangboche ascend Somare short tea break and continue to Dingboche valley where crossing Lobuje river to Imja river valley.this is the last Sherpa settlement of picturesque village with potatoes fields, buckwheat field and barley field with grazing animals along the dotted fields. Day 6: Dingboche: Acclimatization, 4 hours (4km).We recommend spending a day in Dinboche village to help acclimate before heading more high altitude instead of staying at guest house, we climb steep ridge called Nangkar Tshang peak for best view point of Makalu,Chhopolu, Lhotse,Lhotse shar, Island Peak,Cho Oyu the six tallest peaks of the world and deepest dingboche valley to to Namche Bazaar valley.overnight at dingboche. Day 7: Dingboche to Lobuje (4910m/16200ft) via Thukla (4,620 m/15,245 ft): 4 - 5 hours.The trail from Dingboche to Thukla gradually ascent after the ridge and steep climb to top of the ridge is filled mountain prayer flags and memorials stones for climbers who lost their lives on climbing Mt.Everest ,facing several great views including Lingtren,Khumbutse,Mahalangur himal ,Pumori and across the Bhumbu glacier Nuptse looks more shirker. Walk slowly as possible, rest and make sure enough drinking water due to going higher windy into thin air and dessert land. Day 8: Lobuje to GorakShep (5180 m/17,094ft), after lunch visit Everest Base Camp (5364meter/17,700 ft) overnight at Gorakshep: 6-8 hours (12km).The trail not steep hard but long day due to walk up/down on a glacier rock path. We eat something and continue Everest base camp after check in the room. Following beside Khumbu glacier and Khumbu icefall on touching distance.feel tired after just close to Everest base camp one of the stunning beautiful amazing views of Nuptse,west ridge of Everest,Kbumbutse and Pumori from the snowy base camp.after few minutes enjoy the views with some snicker bars and cookies,taking some beautiful shots on camera, we backwards to Gorakshep for overnight. Day 9: Gorakshep to Kala Patthar(5,545m/18,295ft) to Pherice (4,200m/13,860ft) 7-8 hours (14km).We wake up early in the morning to climb our final destination Kala Pathar as soon get light outside on cold temperature and continue ascent after hot cup of tea or coffee. Takes around two/three hours to top and backwards 40 minutes depending on physical condition when we there. Kala Pathar view point is one of best way to overview the tallest mountain Everest .we can also see south cool between Lhotse and Everest (which also known as 5th Camp while attempt the top. Kala Pathar is view point place that your unleashed dream trip became reality and feels one of the strongest people in the world to achieve your goal. Day 10: Pheriche to Namche Bazaar (3,440m/11,280 ft): 6 - 7 hours (18km).Today we will feel more pleasure in knee and lose approximately 2500ft on trail with lots of down and ups. Cross Dudhkoshi river bank then continue Namche Bazaar for celebrating successful trip. Today our legs and knees could be sore after long descend. (Service included meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
Day 11: Namche Bazaar to Lukla (2,800m/9,186ft): 6 - 8 hours (16-17km).In the morning one of the best breakfast as possible we continue final downhill destination to Lukla. Crossing several suspension bridges and monasteries.We will feel very sore legs and knees after three day lond descending around (3000m/9900ft) from Kalapathar Peak 5545m to Phakding 2600m and Lukla 2800m.thats why we are so tired after hot shower start final Everest trek celebration.overnight at Lukla. Day 12: Fly back to Kathmandu.Early in the morning after breakfast go to airport for the flight to Kathmandu to take us after long journey of Mountain to vibrant city Kathmandu.
